Vaporisers for dry herbs

Vaporisers for dry herbs

Portable vs. desktop vaporizers.

A portable vaporizer is a handheld device designed to be used on-the-go. Despite offering maximum versatility to users, they run on batteries that need to be recharged.

A desktop vaporizer is larger and requires electricity to operate. They are better suited for heavy users and large groups because their heating systems are more sophisticated and robust.

Portable Dry herb Vaporisers

  • Smaller size
  • Smaller chamber
  • Rechargeable batteries
  • Designed for on-the-go

Desktop Dry Herb Vaporisers

  • Larger units
  • Larger chambers
  • More functionality
  • Designed for use at home

Vaporizers for dry herbs: how do they work?

Vaporisers work by taking your ground herbs and placing it in the chamber of your vaporizer. The chamber is then heated to a set temperature for a duration of time.

Once the chamber reaches its set temperature essential oils begin to boil off the plant. As you draw from the vaporizer air is introduced into the chamber increasing the production of vapor. The vapor then travels through a vapor path where it cools down before it hits your lips.

How does a convection vaporizer work?

Convection Vaporisers work by heating your dry herbs with hot air. Think of a convection vaporizer like an easy bake oven for your flower. Rather than direct contact, air is preheated before it enters the chamber.

The hot air causes the essential oils to bubble into a vapor, which allows plant material to remain. Because convection devices need room for the air to be preheated, they tend to be a bit larger.

How does a conduction vaporizer work?

Conduction Vaporisers work by heating your dry herbs through direct contact. The concept is like cooking in a skillet or frying pan.

Most conduction Vaporisers work by heating the sidewalls of the chamber, where the heat is passed along to the botanical. This heat turns the essential oils into vapor, while baking the plant material. The benefit of conduction heating is that it can be used in smaller devices.

How does a hybrid vaporizer work?

Hybrid Vaporisers use a combination of conduction and convection to heat your flower. Often hybrid devices will have the sidewalls of the devices heated to help insulate the hot air that is entering the chamber.

Hybrid devices tend to be in the middle of convection and conduction devices in terms of size. However, they still must be large enough for the vapor path to generate hot air.

Does vaporizing help conserve herbs and save money?

Vaporizing has been shown to be more efficient than combustion. Combustion destroys essential oils before they are inhaled, while vaporization works to preserve them. The result is that the same amount of dry herb is more effective when used with a vaporizer.

Can you use Vaporisers with concentrates?

Some vaporisers can be used with extracts. These types of Vaporisers are called 2 in 1’s or dual use Vaporisers. They are handy if you are the type of user who frequently utilizes both materials but only wants to operate 1 device. 2-in-1 Vaporizers are available in both desktop and portable variations. If you use extracts a lot, you may want to consider a wax vaporizer.
